When the Covid-19 pandemic reached the UK, the first venues to close were theatres, a week before the first national lockdown kicked in.

In the days leading up to the closure of theatres, freelancers across the live entertainment industry started seeing work cancelled at an alarming rate as events were called off due to uncertainty.

By the 17th March, theatres were closed and many freelancers already had no more work booked for months. Over this time, PVP teamed up with a number of other industry professionals to form Theatre Together. The collective created an online fundraising event All the Web's a Stage, to raise money for those freelancers now out of work.

Money raised from the event went to three charities: Acting for Others, Help Musicians UK and the Golsoncott Foundation, to provide emergency grants and bounce back funding to help the industry get through the pandemic.

All the Web's a Stage took place on 23rd April 2020, Shakespeare's birthday and the date that British theatres were restored after the last time they were closed for such an extended period in the 17th century.

The event featured 12 hours of continuous live streaming - breaking only briefly to clap for the NHS - from across the breadth of live entertainment. The first and only event of its kind, put together in just five weeks, almost all performances were live from artists' living rooms, directed, controlled and produced remotely from a network of five locations in London.

Performers and hosts included celebrities like Stephen Fry and Danny Mac, West End stars including Kerry Ellis, Marisha Wallace, and David Hunter, up-and-coming performers like Gemma Barnett and Evie-Rose Lane, and artists from a wide variety of genres including music, magic, cabaret and comedy.

All the Web's a Stage was produced by over 50 organisations and individuals from across theatre in the UK, including contributions from producers, creatives, performers, marketing and press agencies, and many more. Paul co-led the project alongside producer Sofi Berenger.
