DRIFT
by Kristian Phillips
directed by Matt Steinberg
The dirty secret of dependency plagues Roger in his small hometown in Wales and leads him to what may literally be a dead end. When his best friend’s addiction gets out of hand, Roger must face his own demons and make the ultimate decision.

Drift is a darkly comic, tour-de-force solo show, about addiction and grief, drenched in toxic masculinity.

Directed by Matt Steinberg (Tumulus; Check-In/Check-Out), Drift is Kristian Phillips’ debut play and was a runner-up for Outside Edge Theatre Company’s inaugural Phil Fox Award for Playwriting.

Drift is kindly supported by the Carne Trust, the Cockayne Trust and the London Community Foundation.

Outside Edge Theatre Company is the UK’s only theatre company and participatory arts charity focused on improving the lives of people affected by any form of addiction, including their families, carers and champions. For the past twenty years OETC has produced theatre productions about issues related to addiction, from substance misuse to problem gambling, and provided free drama workshops to help people make healthier choices and support their recovery maintenance. We have created over 50 award-winning theatre productions at venues such as Soho Theatre, Riverside Studios, Hoxton Hall, Shoreditch Town Hall and VAULT Festival.

DRIFT was due to play at VAULT Festival and to perform to service users of addiction treatment facilities in London in January and February 2022, starring Alexander Vlahos. Following the cancellation of VAULT '22, the show is now being reworked for a future premiere later in the year.
